The best practices from the implementation of Montreal Protocol around ten years ago would trigger Canadian businesses right now to identify the better, but simple solution to step on new market according to Kyoto Accord approach.

Montreal Protocol has not been only contributing the CFCs reduction beneficial to the human being on the earth, but also creating more business opportunities to the entrepreneurs. You would not want to ignore some main aspects to make businesses successful at that time if you take China CFCs Reduction as an example.

Government strong support ¨C China government committed to Montreal Protocol, and issued the national mandatory policies to guide the related Chinese industries, such as household electrical appliances, fire extinguisher manufacturers etc, to replace the existing process, semi-product and equipment with the new technology, in order to reduce CFCs by the deadline; Therefore, more consultancy companies went to China for the communication of Montreal Protocol via seminar, training;

Financial support expected ¨C Some fund, financial supporting, owned by UNDP or UNEP or other organization, were applied to the specific industry with the help of banks. This situation provided a chance to financial institutions for stepping on the China platform, and move the business operation further;

New Product complied with Montreal Protocol ¨C More entrepreneurs caught up with this opportunity with providing the new products to satisfy Chinese manufactures, before the product is localized in China;

Equipments and processes ¨C This sort of cutting-edge equipment and processes played the major roles in some assembly in China. For instance, many core units of foam equipment imported from USA, German, etc., and installed in refrigerator assembly across around 100 refrigerator manufactures in China at the earlier stage.

Therefore, the similarity between the implementation of Montreal Protocol and Kyoto Accord may make Canadian entrepreneurs easier to figure out the potential business opportunities in the developing countries under Kyoto Accord.

Excellent suggestion for the business community to strongly look at the
unfolding business events related to the Montreal Protocol. For
participants who are unaware of the protocol, here is the protocol website:

http://www.unep.org/ozone/montreal.shtml.

It would be interesting to explore in some detail a comparison of
Business initiatives and/or impacts related to the Montreal Protocol and
those related or projected related to the Kyoto Protocol. For individuals in
business, I believe this basic homework would be a wise business move, and one that might open investment doors, as well as save a lot of unaccounted contingency clean-up costs in the future.

Thanks for Steven's comments regarding to the further comparison for Business initiatives.

Practically, it shall be easier to work out company initiatives, and identifying the business opportunities, and also schedule a marketing plan particularly associated with Kyoto accord, in terms of bringing the gap between Canada and other developing countries.

It would be a learning curve for everyone, and more important for Canadian entrepreneurs.
